"The effort to know a place deeply is, ultimately, an expression of the human desire to belong, to fit somewhere"         - The Invitation by Barry Lopez

it wasn't about that.

In high school, I can admit that I was some sort of emotional kid. A roller coaster ride wouldn't even be close to portraying the course of events that happened to me in high school. My heart was broken a few times, and I've definitely broke hearts, too. I was playing on both sides in the game of love: the heartbreaker and the heartbroken. But, this isn't going to be some sappy post about who I've lead on, what break-ups did to me, or the girls that I pursued. At the age of sixteen, I encountered one of the most difficult times of my life. I was in a relationship that I so truly adored at the time and managed to let things go downhill. Yeah...I screwed it up big time. Eventually, the whole thing became a confusing mess in that year. As the seasons changed, so did the status of our relationship. I've always hated the idea of being branded as the bad guy. I wanted to be the sweet, caring guy that a girl wished for. Back then, I was so soft and cheesy. Seeing that ...

An Apology

to those that I’ve hurt. Whether it may be recent  or in the past, I know I may have not expressed myself. I won’t make up excuses, I will only give full-hearted explanations. There isn’t any time for me  to plead for forgiveness  or another chance. I know where I can find my redemption. It’s only fair, It’s only right,  It’s only just, to express how truly sorry I am for betraying close friends,  leaving friends in the dark,  and letting loved ones hang on a cliff. For you people, my words will never be enough  to show how much  I love you, care for you, and genuinely respect you. Don’t accept my apology, if you don’t want to. Just please know, From the bottom  and utmost sincerity  of my heart I am truly sorry.  I think it’s worth it If you knew.

The 6th Summer

My full size bed  should feel so much emptier, more spacious with the distance between us. I should be missing everything  about your lips. They way they they tasted, they way the looked,  the way they revealed your pearly whites whenever you gave me your perfect, entrancing smile. I should want you here, next to me. Whether it’s in the passenger seat watching me sing and dance along to Earth, Wind, and Fire or sitting in the seat next to me at AMC watching Jay Gatsby throw the biggest party.... I should want you here. I should miss your dyed hair, the way it shone  in the summer's sun, and  the flowery, sweet fragrance it had after I waited so long for you to get out of the shower. I should miss  the simplicity of walks in the park, hand in hand, wondering what kind of lunch or dinner to eat. Your bright brown eyes, should keep me captivated. They should hold me down and charm me  into a state of weakness. When the tears puff your eyes, when the...

the best thing I'll ever learn in basketball.

Image
This is my basketball team. We were formed to represent FACE, the Filipino club we have in William Paterson University. I have never played at a competitive level of basketball. I've played on the team in 4th - 6th grade but that'll never really count. I recently just closed up a season in Willy P's intramural league. And what a terrible, yet encouraging experience it was. We were at a great disadvantage. Most of us haven't played competitive basketball or lacked some experience. The worst disadvantage was our height. We're all just a bunch of short Filipino guys with an average height of probably 5' 8". We played against teams who had an average height that was taller than our big man. We lacked team experience and chemistry: passes were't going where they should've, some of us didn't even want to pass the ball, there were moments of no communication, we tried to out-fancy each other with our play styles, we didn't know how to control...

"who you are in high school is not who you will be in college and who you are in college is not who you will be when you are 30. when you accept that you are malleable and ever-changing, you will be less resistant to new ways of thinking and being and you will grow into the beautiful person you are meant to become. resist the urge to remain stagnant. there are always things to learn about the world and yourself. let yourself learn them."

i'm home alone and i wrote this.

I find it funny how we want something so badly. Once we find no need or no specialty, we can just get rid of it or dispose of it so easily. Why do we spend so much time searching for something that we can just…love…something that we’ve been dying to have and couldn’t wait to have…except when you finally get your own selfish hands on it, you still look at with the same eyes of fascination and awe of when you didn’t have it before. Whether we we didn’t hesitate to drop it or had to find legitimate reasons to let go….then, we never really  loved  whatever it was held on to.  We all know what  eyes  I’m talking about. The drying eyes we all of a sudden get when we’ve focused all of our attention onto something and our brain forgets to tell our eyes to blink. The enlarged eyes we get when we see a phenomenon of a night sky or seeing something breathtaking directly before us. The pupils of our very eyes dilate in the dark to let more light in….But, they also d...
